Consultation Launch: Brain Lens Investing – Capitalizing the Brain Economy for Productivity and Well-being
Partners of the Brain Capital Alliance are pleased to announce the launch of the Brain Lens Investing Consultation Paper, developed under the auspices of the Rice University Brain Economy Program, in collaboration with the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association (EMEA), the Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative, Grand Challenges Canada, and NeuroCentury.
This consultation paper proposes a new framework for integrating brain capital—the combined value of brain health and brain skills—into financial decision-making. It explores how investing through a brain lens can generate both measurable social impact and long-term economic growth.
Building on the momentum of the WEF–McKinsey Health Institute Brain Economy Action Forum and the European Investment Bank Institute’s Foresight Roundtable on Systemic Investing in the Brain Economy, the paper outlines three core strategies:
- Target brain capital–enhancing investments – identifying where capital can build human potential.
- Embed brain capital into financial risk assessment – translating cognitive health into quantifiable financial metrics.
- Institutionalize brain capital – integrating expertise and accountability within financial systems.
This pioneering approach positions Brain Lens Investing as a potential next step in the evolution of sustainable finance, unlocking value across sectors from early education and neuroscience to food systems, infrastructure, and aging societies.
Rice University, the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association, Grand Challenges Canada, and the Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative are Pathfinders for the World Economic Forum Brain Economy Action Forum.
Experts in finance, investing, and banking are invited to review the paper and share feedback as part of this open consultation process.
